Winter readiness is probably the most important safety topic we cover when having our Metro Building Product safety meetings. In this post, we’ll cover the importance of planning ahead for winter weather. We’ll outline the winter safety topics we discuss with our drivers. And we’ll talk about how Metro prepares for the winter months.
The saying goes, proper prior planning prevents piss poor performance. We take that to heart here at our Colorado drywall supply company. That is why when readying our employees and equipment for the winter months, we make sure they are completely prepared. We discuss with our employees the equipment they’ll need on hand. We’ll explain why it’s important to wear proper clothing and safety equipment for cold weather. We also explain possible outcomes if you don’t plan ahead for snow and below freezing weather.
Winter Safety Topics
If you’ve lived in Colorado, you know how fast the weather can change. So in the beginning of October, we start discussing with our drivers and stockers that winter weather can hit at any time. We help them understand how important it is to be safe and prepared for the winter months. Here are winter safety topics we discuss to better help them understand:
- Defensive winter weather driving
- Items needed for winter weather driving
- What to do if you are in an accident
- The importance of wearing layers during the winter
- Eating well and staying hydrated during the winter months
- Proper hygiene and staying healthy
At Metro Building products, we work hard at preparing for the winter months. This includes addressing maintenance concerns that could be exacerbated by colder weather. We also know that a lot of damage can happen to material in storage and in transport during winter. So to mitigate the possibility of damage we make sure we have enough tarps for our trucks and yard to properly transport and store all materials.
So if we’ve can make it to May without any accidents to our trucks, and furthermore, employees getting hurt because of winter weather. Our Denver drywall company considers this to be a very successful winter. But we won’t know until May comes around. Until then, we’ll keep having safety meetings, explaining the importance of Planning ahead and being ready for anything winter throws our way.
